Supporting Teens with Anxiety - The Truth About Self-Talk
Join us Thursday, February 6 at 6pm for licensed clinical psychologist, music therapist and Tilden Preparatory School neighbor, Dr. Genevieve Weiscovitz for a fun and informative presentation for parents of teens. This presentation will be hosted at our campus at 1231 Solano Ave.
The teen years are emotionally challenging, so much is changing, inside and out. Teens today are incredibly hard on themselves, amplified by social media and high expectations, opportunities for unhealthy comparisons are everywhere. Teens are often pushed to the limits of their coping skills to manage the pressures in their lives. Often this stress can develop into anxiety or mood symptoms. In this presentation, we will explore how anxiety presents in teens, and when to know when teens may benefit from professional help. We will explore "self-talk" -the way we talk to and about ourselves- as a window into self image. We will learn how to harness the power of self-talk as a tool to build confidence and resiliency for teens.
Parents will come away with a better understanding of how and why teens struggle with anxiety. Participants will learn how to assess when teens may benefit from mental health support. Parents will explore the content of self-talk in their families and how to intervene to help their teen build more a positive, self-compassionate inner voice.
Refreshments will be served and RSVP's are appreciated.
